The Roots Village Project

I’m SO excited to be a part of the Roots Village Project. We’ll be working with 25 Toronto-based at-risk-youth, focusing on community, identity, and communication as we help them build self-esteem and prepare them to better themselves throughout the rest of their lives. Learn more here:

The Roots Village Project

Led by Laurie Campbell, Roots Director of Health & Wellness, the Village Project is comprised of 50 like-minded individuals, yoga instructors, dancers, personal trainers, art therapists, foodies, nutritionists and eco-savvy entrepreneurs. All sharing a passion for improving our local environment and communities.  As their first project, in collaboration with the Academy of Lions, the Village Project team aims to tackle the health, wellness and fitness of underprivileged youth in Toronto.  Focusing on community, identity, communication and product, five teams have been created to equip 25 Toronto-based at-risk-youth for success by building their self-esteem and prepare them to better themselves throughout the rest of their lives through community, mentorship, networking and technology.  Projects will include:  Building Community: through a collective passion for health, fitness, athletics and wellness, mentors will act as positive change agents to improve the lives of at-risk youth.  Workshops: participants will attend skill development seminars on social media and fundraising to build professional skills and receive individual support from the Academy of Lions Foundation, a not-for-profit that aims to eliminate barriers to health, fitness and nutrition.  Mentorship: 10 Village Project mentors will be matched with five youth participants to form a team. Mentors will inspire and support the youth through groups on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Design: youth participants will design a T-shirt to use as promotional tool for their social media campaign.
